SWS 2: Boundedness and Blow-up in Differential Equations
Time and place: Compact course / Blockseminar
Organizational meeting/Vorbesprechung/Themenvergabe: Tuesday, April 15.04.2014, 14.15-15.45 SR 041
Organizers: Prof. Dr. Anna Marciniak-Czochra and Dipl.Math. Steffen Härting
Abstract: In this seminar we focus on mathematical analysis of boundedness properties and global existence of solutions of differential equations. Starting from ordinary differential equations, we will study uniform boundedness versus blow-up in reaction-diffusion equations, including nonlinearity-induced and diffusion-driven emergence of singularities. For the latter mechanism, we will analyze shadow-type reductions and corresponding integro-differential equations. Finally, we will study partial differential equations with cross-diffusion (chemotaxis-type equations), which serve as the most famous model of mass concentration in biology.
- The language of the seminar can be English or German depending on participants.
- It is expected that the participants of the seminar have basic knowledge in partial differential equations and functional analysis.
